David Saltzman
David has been the Executive Director of Robin Hood Foundation since its inception in 1989. Robin Hood finds and funds the strongest, most effective programs helping New York's two million poor residents break poverty's stranglehold. Robin Hood leverages its financial support with in-depth management, legal, accounting and real estate assistance. In addition, Robin Hood annually solicits millions of dollars of goods for the organizations it funds. David coordinated the organization and operation of the Robin Hood Relief Fund to aid victims - particularly poor and lower income victims - of the attacks on the World Trade Center. In addition, Robin Hood staged the Concert for New York featuring Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, the Who, Elton John, Billy Joel, Destiny's Child, Billy Crystal, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert DeNiro, Jim Carrey and others, coordinating the worldwide broadcast and benefit recording.
Prior to joining Robin Hood, David served as the Special Assistant to the President of the Board of Education of the City of New York for three years. Before working at the Board of Education, he ran AIDS education programs for the New York City Department of Health. David began his career in public service working with homeless families for the Human Resources Administration of the City of New York, the city's Department of Social Services.
David earned a Masters of Public Policy and Administration from Columbia University and a Bachelors degree from Brown University. He serves on a number of boards of directors, including the board of the Brazelton Foundation, Dr. T. Berry Brazelton's effort to improve the health care of children across the nation, and the board of 501click, a new effort to improve the effectiveness of the nation's 1.2 million nonprofit agencies. In 2001, David was named as one of Time Magazine's 100 Innovators.
