Who Will Take Care of Me?

The Family Center is a 2 site 70 seat organization. The primary office is in Manhattan, with a satellite site in the heart of Brooklyn. The Family center approached the NPower NY office at a time the organization had 1 main IT person and was looking for support for a newly created division that was to reside in the Brooklyn office.

After a detailed discussion with their current IT person and a Web development consultant, it was obvious that we could introduce a brand new 2003 environment in Brooklyn. The challenge was allowing these new department members the ability to access resources on the Manhattan site. After a few short months several of the agency staff members noticed the superior operation of the new department. It was mentioned to the Executive staff "Why Can't we do that". After about a year and severe degradation of the Manhattan technology, NPower was again brought to the table.

This meeting was held with the Executive Director and several department heads, they wanted to know if we could do for the entire agency, what we did for this small sampling of staff in Brooklyn. We of course stated yes. The project entailed moving the Manhattan office to a new location and introducing new technology to manage all of their agency resources. Due to the scalability of the Microsoft Active directory 2003 environment we were able to expand the small Brooklyn domain to encompass the entire 2 site agency. We introduced a new Exchange 2003 server to replace their failing exchange 2000 server.

We performed all of the work while the agency was moving. Their new network contained segmented networks for a brand new tenant and a public kiosk. This was only one of newly introduced features. The list goes on and on. The organization used this same time to standardize on an NPower implemented Defran database. The Defran implementation was put on top of new 2005 SQL server.

The Organization is always commenting about how their needs have changed as a direct result of NPower, they no longer focus on issues with non working technology in the environment.

Today the agency is focused on increasing their use of technology to further enhance their mission. It should also be mentioned that as a direct result of the Implementation activities, Family Center has grown and is still on the rise.
