Technology Service Corps

Technology Service Corps (TSC) creates opportunities for young people who represent an untapped pool of talent that can meet IT staffing needs of local nonprofits. Before being admitted to TSC, candidates must meet baseline requirements that include: previous work experience, a high school diploma or GED, a desire for a career path in the technology field, and a keen interest in the nonprofit sector. Most of the students entering TSC are either not employed or work part time. Those who are employed often work to support themselves, their parents, and their own children.
The TSC curriculum and experience are designed to have a positive, long-term impact on the lives and future career paths of students. Students are put through a rigorous twelve-week program that includes a four-week internship. All class modules include professional skills development, hands-on learning, and homework. Guest instructors aid with professional development and real-world experience is imparted to the students through field trips.
TSC helps its students become job-ready for a technologically sophisticated and competitive workplace, which means instilling additional professional skills that are needed to succeed outside the classroom. Students develop problem solving, customer service, and communication skills, while acquiring an understanding of the nature of a professional work environment. NPower NY and the TSC staff see this type of skill development as essential to career readiness.
TSC Students Support Hurricane Katrina Victims
Hurricane Katrina left thousands of people in Louisiana, Mississippi and the surrounding areas homeless and in need of food, water and critical medical supplies. When NPower NY Executive Director Barbara Chang offered to match any donations to the American Red Cross made by the NPower NY staff, students from Technology Service Corps (TSC) Class 11 were among many who answered the call.
