Employment Coordinator / Business Developer

Background:
NPower NY is an affiliate of the NPower network, a federation of twelve independent nonprofits located throughout the United States. We help other nonprofits use technology to better serve their communities.  NPower NY offers a continuum of technology services including consulting, training, and membership support.  NPower NY also operates an innovative and very successful workforce development program, Technology Service Corps (TSC), which engages young adults to invest in their future by experiencing hands-on technology training (help desk, networking, & web development), hands-on project work at NYC nonprofits, and access to a technology career, while simultaneously benefiting the community at large.  TSC serves 18-25 year olds who are rediscovering their potential.  These are talented yet straying/searching young adults who are prepared to transform their own lives, their community, and society by harnessing their intellect and hard work through the tool of technology. 
Position Overview:
Now entering its fifth year and expanding its offerings, TSC seeks a committed, energetic Employment Coordinator to work with the TSC team.  The Employment Coordinator will lead TSC's activities in professional development, internship placement, job placement, career development, and higher education.  The primary goals are to enable TSC students and graduates to develop professional skills, secure work experience during TSC training, obtain employment and to support the pursuit of growth and continued education for all graduates. The Employment Coordinator will work closely with TSC students, graduates, staff members, and community partners to support positive student outcomes, high-quality programming, and a constantly improving model of service delivery.  This position will also advise several students, and be expected to work closely with the students, maintain an environment of trust and nurture, and engage with them on a daily basis in ways that contribute to both the students’ and the organization’s success.

Duties

Responsibilities:
Student Development
Guide students through development of career goals, job search strategies, development of resumes, interviewing skills, internship best practices, etc.
Lead professional development training - including scheduling/delivering module training, harnessing guest lecturers (internal & external) for training modules, providing appropriate follow up, and refine curriculum where needed.
Manage identifying, coordinating, & evaluating technology task force projects, internships, and employment opportunities

Student Placement and Support Activities
Assist graduates to retain employment, grow within employment, and obtain promotions in employment.
Serve as resource for alumni and their employers, including regular phone calls to monitor alumni’s technical and professional skills development and help troubleshoot any issues that may arise.

Relationship / Business Development Activities
Provide ongoing job development services including creating and maintaining relationships, building linkages with potential employers, and create a feedback loop between alumni employers, alumni and NPower NY.
Stay current on trends in the job market and economy.
Market staffing services to the non-profit community and help develop new staffing services that are responsive to hiring community.
Manage invoicing and payment for TSC services.

Information / Relationship Tracking
Survey, track and analyze program participants, internship sites, alumni and agencies that utilize services. 
Contribute to and leverage NPower NY’s CRM System.
Responsible for workforce development statistical reports.

Requirements:
At minimum one of the following must be met:
at least two years’ college credit,
a two-year degree,
or at least three years’ job development experience.
or at least two years’ of human development experience.

Skills Needed:
A passion for helping people grow, develop themselves, and better their lives and their community.
Ability to motivate students to actively participate and engage in learning professional skills and develop habits that meet the needs of internship partners and employers.
Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills.
Well-organized, motivated individual, with excellent communication (oral, written, and listening) skills.
Experience teaching and a talent of curriculum evaluation to identify what is working and where improvements are possible.
Must be detail orientated, have excellent follow through, and work well in team-based, entrepreneurial, and diverse environment.
Experience in one or more of the following fields helpful but not required: workforce development, youth development, human potential, human resources, IT staffing, or social services.
Comfortable with technology and possess an understanding of how nonprofits utilize and staff technology (or a strong desire to learn).
