TSC Site Coordinator
Background:
NPower NY is an affiliate of the NPower network, a federation of twelve independent nonprofits located throughout the United States. We help other nonprofits use technology to better serve their communities. NPower NY offers a continuum of technology services including consulting, training, and membership support. NPower NY also operates an innovative and very successful workforce development program, Technology Service Corps (TSC), which engages young adults to invest in their future by experiencing hands-on technology training (help desk, networking, & web development), hands-on project work at NYC nonprofits, and access to a technology career, while simultaneously benefiting the community at large. TSC serves 18-25 year olds who are rediscovering their potential. These are talented yet straying/searching young adults who are prepared to transform their own lives, their community, and society by harnessing their intellect and hard work through the tool of technology.
Position Overview:
Now entering its fifth year and expanding its offerings, Technology Service Corps (TSC) seeks a committed Site Coordinator to work with the TSC team. The TSC Site Coordinator will lead and coordinate TSC's activities to enable TSC students to learn and grow in a productive and positive learning environment. The Site Coordinator is responsible for student guidance and development, coordination of learning and development activities, and the general functioning of the TSC learning site. The Site Coordinator will work closely with TSC students, graduates, staff, and community partners to support positive student outcomes, high-quality programming, and a constantly improving model of service delivery. This position will be the point person for student needs and challenges during the training and will be expected to work closely with the students, maintain an environment of trust and nurture, and engage with them on a daily basis in ways that contribute to both the students? and the organization?s success.
Duties
Responsibilities:
Provide student coaching, development, & enforce program requirements (evaluate student strengths and weaknesses, student tracking & performance).
Handle student emergencies & referral to resources.
Instruct students in selected professional development modules.
Prepare students for nonprofit technical jobs in everyway possible, by exposing students to deep learning opportunities, by having students develop self-confidence and belief in their ability to develop and grow, and by coaching students to conduct themselves as technology professionals.
Suppport students and instructors to foster a positive, high performance learning community.
Coordinate, develop, and provide appropriate follow for the following: program schedule, classroom resources, student resources (suiting, metrocards, etc), guest lecturers, and other classroom opportunities.
Administer and ensure quality for program modules (tech news, team meetings, etc.).
Oversight and security of technology for TSC classroom (laptops, servers, software library, & other components under the TSC domain).
Handle the TSC donation process in conjunction with Community Relations (receiving, testing, documenting, deploying, and appropriate follow up).
Handle classroom rentals (verify working resources & schedule).
Additional Responsibilities
Assist with Recruitment & Admission activities.
Requirements:
At minimum one of the following must be met:
Human development experience
Program coordination experience
Skills Needed:
A passion for helping people grow, develop themselves, and better their lives and their community
Ability to motivate students to actively participate and engage in learning technical/professional skills and develop habits that meet the needs of internship partners and employers.
Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills.
Well-organized, motivated individual, with excellent communication (oral, written, and listening) skills, who can juggle multiple events and prioritize accordingly.
Must be detail orientated, have excellent follow through, and work well in team-based, entrepreneurial, and diverse environment
Experience in one or more of the following fields helpful but not required: workforce development, youth development, social work, human potential, IT staffing, or social services.
Comfortable with technology and possess an understanding of how nonprofits utilize and staff technology (or a strong desire to learn)
