NPower NY Awarded Two Major Grants

Michael & Susan Dell Foundation and the Ira W. DeCamp Foundation

NPower NY is pleased to announce that it has received two major grants to support its ongoing operations and the expansion of its workforce development program, Technology Service Corps (TSC).  The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation awarded NPower NY a $200,000 operational support grant to continue to provide technology assistance to New York City nonprofits, helping to expand and increase the impact of their missions. In addition, the Ira W. DeCamp Foundation recently announced a $200,000 grant over two years to expand TSC in both size and scope.

The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF) is investing in New York City nonprofits that are focused on disadvantaged children and the general operating grant to NPower NY is a part of their commitment to helping nonprofits increase their technology capabilities.  “We are impressed with the NPower model and in New York it seems to have an excellent reputation.  We are proud to be supporting this organization and look forward to connecting our New York grantees with NPower NY’s valuable services” noted Kendall Pace, programs director of the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation.

The MSDF grant will support core NPower NY programs such as NPower-Basic and the NPower NY volunteer program both of which assist small to medium-sized nonprofits that may not have the budget for full-time IT staff.  NPower-Basic is an “out of the box” remote technology support service for small nonprofits that delivers full-time support including critical back-ups, remote monitoring and a helpdesk for daily maintenance and emergencies.  The volunteer program matches under-resourced nonprofits with skilled staff from NPower NY’s corporate partners on projects that range from computer lab instructors to website refurbishing.  This program not only delivers valuable services for nonprofits at no charge but it also gives talented volunteers an opportunity to utilize their skills toward helping small, community-based nonprofits.

The Ira W. DeCamp Foundation grant will help expand the TSC program over the next 24 months. TSC delivers high quality citywide technology training to out-of-school youth while also providing desperately-needed technology support services to the nonprofit community.  With the DeCamp grant, TSC hopes to expand enrollment and course length in addition to further developing the curriculum, which will include certification preparation as well as customized employer trainings.  The Ira W. DeCamp Foundation was one of TSC’s original seed supporters, providing a challenge grant to help TSC get on its feet in 2002.

“We are especially excited to receive support from both the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation and the Ira W. DeCamp Foundation,” said Barbara Chang, NPower NY’s executive director. “NPower NY and TSC have both grown dramatically over the years, and we are thrilled to be able to expand our services to even more organizations and talented students.”
