New York, NY December 2005, NPower NY has launched an advertising campaign to introduce a new service to nonprofits that are located in New York City. The service - called NPower Basic - enables small and medium sized nonprofits to receive remote network and PC support as well as maintenance and backup services via a "hub and spoke" model. The campaign will focus on giving nonprofits "peace of mind" when it comes to their technology infrastructure, so nonprofits can focus on their mission while technology experts support their hardware and software tools.
NPower Basic is grounded in a simple concept: nonprofits should access their technology the way they access their lights; turn it on and it works. The generating power behind achieving that simplicity is anchored in the hub and spoke framework of NPower Basic. The technical staff managing the service is concentrated at the hub (NPower NY headquarters) and cost efficiencies are achieved for all NPower Basic clients.
One of the unique aspects of the program is that NPower Basic's helpdesk is being staffed in part by graduates from NPower NY's IT training program called Technology Service Corps (TSC). TSC recruits out-of-school youth from the city's underserved communities and trains them to become network administrators over a twelve to sixteen week period. In exchange for being accepted into the program, graduates agree to work at a nonprofit for at least one year.
The double bottom line social value of NPower Basic received wide recognition when the service was awarded the grand prize at the 2005 Yale School of Management/Goldman Sachs Foundation Partnership for Nonprofit Ventures business plan competition this past June.
"NPower Basic is a groundbreaking service and we are proud to launch this ad campaign to raise awareness for our nonprofits," noted Barbara Chang, NPower NY's executive director. "Nonprofits are much more comfortable today with the concept of remote support through the Internet than they were five years ago. NPower Basic represents a new way of accessing technology tools and it has the potential of transforming the sector."
