Volunteers

NPower NY's volunteer program harnesses the time, talents and energy of volunteers to help New York City nonprofits use technology to better achieve their missions.

Volunteers provide the following types of assistance:

Technology Provider

Technology Providers help nonprofits complete small but important technology projects.  Sample projects include creating a set of presentation templates, updating a website, developing a database queries, setting up and configuring new computers, etc.  Projects must be discrete and have a fairly flexible timeline for completion.

eMentor

eMentors provide ongoing technology support to nonprofits by agreeing to mentor junior technologists or "accidental techies" via e-mail. eMentors respond to questions, troubleshoot problems, provide tactical advice, etc.

Technology Advisor/Board Member

Technology Advisors and Board Members help nonprofits make wiser technology investments by serving as advisors to nonprofit leaders for specific projects or agreeing to serve on nonprofit boards.

Virus Vaccinator

Through the generous support of Symantec, we are able to provide free anti-virus software to a select group of small nonprofits each fall.  Virus Vaccinators install the donated software and train nonprofit staff on its use and benefits.
